BRIGHTON. This Brighton area restaurant has become a favorite among locals because of the expertly prepared Thai cuisine it serves. The pad Thai and noodle dishes are winning rave reviews from those Bostonians in the know. And other favored items include the spicy papaya salad and the curry dishes. The decor is very pleasant and cheery with brightly colored artwork lining the walls. Very reasonable prices make it a great value.

BACK BAY. Bangkok Blue offers great lunches, speedy service, and expertly prepared food. To start, order signature "golden triangles" (fried egg roll skins packed with spicy curry filling) or try dumplings (filled pastas topped with soy-ginger sauce). Entrees run the gamut from rendang chicken to pad Thai and chicken satay, and desserts include Thai custard and coconut-tinged ice cream. Hanging lamps and picturesque paintings adorn the Boylston Street eatery.

BACK BAY. In business since 1979 and reputedly Boston's first Thai restaurant, this local favorite can be found near Symphony Hall and Berklee College of Music. As such, it makes an ideal pre-concert stop. The menu boasts fresh, tangy Thai dishes, including traditional favorites like chicken satay, chicken green curry topped with asparagus and eggplant, and pad Thai.

WEST METRO. Bernard's is located in the Chestnut Hill Mall and offers a fine dining option for shoppers or those seeking out of the ordinary Asian cooking. The menu consists of Chinese cuisine with a modern flair as the chefs manage to turn out dishes that go beyond expectations of what Chinese food has been traditionally. Try the black bean shrimp. Occasionally, guests are treated to live music and temporary art shows. An outdoor dining area is available during the warmer months.

FINANCIAL DISTRICT. Billy Tse's has something for everyone with a menu that hails from China, Thailand, and Vietnam. All three cuisines can be found under one roof, and all three are done quite well. This spot is a good choice for quiet conversation, and the dining room is relaxing with large windows that face the street. Free valet parking is an extra bonus, and delivery is available on a limited basis.
